Since our time is precious, we are selective. The selection process most of time is subscioncious. Although we don't know exactly why, we know we like it or not in a very short period of time. "Blink" tells the same story.
Good book are not rare. They are just a bit difficult to find initially. Once you know where they are, you will not have enough time for them. So are interesting people. Only caveat is that you have to be open-minded and inquisitive, as they may not come with the time or form you expect them to be.
